Want to Learn to Speed Fly?

Of course you do.

If you're serious, learn from the guys who brought the sport to the States: Mike Steen, Kevin Hintze and Steve Mayer.

What equipment Cloud 9 provides:

Cloud 9 uses Ozone, Little Cloud and SOL wings and SOL, Sup'Air and Ava harnesses, depending on the student. You can expect Cloud 9 to provide everything EXCEPT skis and backcountry safety gear (for those wishing to partake in extreme speed flying lessons in the winter).

What you'll need to bring:

Since Cloud 9 provides all the equipment for your lessons, all you'll need to bring are sturdy shoes (or light hiking boots), plenty of water and weather-appropriate clothing. It's fine to bring a helmet from another sport as long as it is lightweight and allows you to hear the commands over the radio and offers good peripheral vision.

What you can expect to learn:

What you can expect to learn is dependent upon the knowledge you already have about airsports. If you start your speedflying lessons with prior experience in skydiving, paragliding, kite surfing, etc., then you can likely expect to start learning with speed flying equipment. If you're starting from scratch, you'll start the process with small-wing paragliding and work your way into the speed wing. (For training on skis, you'll start under a speed wing -- because you don't have to run to take off or land.)

Where Cloud 9 teaches:

Other than the world-famous Point of the Mountain Flight Park, Cloud 9 teach at other hike-in sites and snowmobile-access sites all around Utah and the world. Cloud 9 pilots have pioneered many excellent sites near Salt Lake City.

For wintertime lift-access speed flying, lessons are held in the backcountry behind the Canyons Ski area.

Time commitment expectations:

Again, the time required to complete the program depends on what skills you come in with. Normally, the process takes from 8-12 lessons from start to finish -- but this could shorten to as few as 1-3 if you demonstrate significant preexisting skills.

Cloud 9 students get a special rate when they book the local Ramada Inn for their visit to Salt Lake City.Click here for the special Cloud 9 rate. (The student discount code automatically comes up when you make a reservation using that link.)

Cost:

Each lesson at the Point of the Mountain Flight park costs $100.00. Each mountain lesson on skis costs $300.00 and requires a lift pass -- or hiking.

Many speed flying students start with Cloud 9's basic intro to paragliding (P2) lesson package, adding speed flying lessons at the end for a small extra charge to use our gear -- or NO CHARGE if you purchase a speed flying wing from Cloud 9.
